Immigration Medical Exam & Doctor in Los Angeles

Dr. Safvati is an approved civil surgeon who has helped many immigrants with their
medical examinations during the Naturalization process.

People coming into the United States as immigrants, refugees, or those who need an adjustment of their status have to undergo the immigration medical exam as set forth by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Dr. Shadan Safvati is able to provide the immigration medical exam in Los Angeles. We have an approved and designated immigration doctor on staff to administer the required test and complete the documentation for your application to immigrate to the USA or become a permanent resident.

Individuals entering the United States as non-immigrants or those on short-term transit through the USA do not need to undergo the immigration medical exam. Status adjusters will have their medical exam completed in the USA, while immigrants and refugees have the exam completed before their arrival in the USA.

1. What does the physical examination entail?

The medical examination is conducted by the designated panel doctor, with the assistance of trained and experienced staff. The doctor will record your complete medical history and perform a physical examination. All applicants 15 years of age and older are required to have serologic (blood) tests for syphilis and urine tests for Gonorrhea.

(Applicants under age 15 may be tested for syphilis only if there is reason to suspect the possibility of infection.)  The United States Immigration Services (USCIS) now requires a Quantiferon TB test, as well. The cost of the Quantiferon is not included in the fee, but may be billed to your medical insurance.

The U.S. government requires specific vaccinations according to your age. These vaccinations include mumps, measles, rubella, polio, tetanus, diphtheria toxoids, pertussis, influenza type B, hepatitis B, and any other vaccinations recommended by the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices (ACIP).

Current ACIP recommendations also include the varicella, haemophilius influenzae type B, and pneumococcal vaccines. The doctor will review your vaccination history to determine whether you have all the required vaccinations. Make sure you bring your vaccination records with you to your appointment, if you have them available. (Please see separate sheet for all vaccination requirements when age appropriate).

2. What do I need to bring to the medical examination?

You are required to bring:

  1. Passport or other photographic identity, such as a driving license or identity card.

  2. Vaccination records, if possible, to be reviewed by the doctor.

3. How long will the examination take?

Please allow at least one hour for all administrative and medical tasks to be completed by our immigration doctor in Pinecrest during your appointment.

4. How long will it take for the medical results to be released?

In most cases, the medical report will be ready within 2-4 working days after your appointment date. You will be asked to collect your completed Form I-693 with the results in a sealed envelope to present to your lawyer or the INS. Do not open the sealed envelope.

5. Do you accept my medical insurance to cover the medical examination fees?

Unfortunately, the medical examination conducted for an immigrant physical exam application is not covered by any medical insurance.
